Understanding Your Motor Insurance Cover: A Simple Guide
When it comes to motor insurance, most Zimbabweans know they need it — but fewer understand exactly what they're buying. Here's a plain-English breakdown of the three main cover types available from Zimnat General Insurance.

**Third Party Only**
This is the minimum legal requirement in Zimbabwe. It covers damage you cause to other people's vehicles and property, but provides no cover for damage to your own vehicle. It's the most affordable option.

**Third Party, Fire and Theft**
Builds on third party cover by adding protection if your vehicle is stolen or damaged by fire. It still doesn't cover accidental damage to your own car, but it offers more peace of mind at a slightly higher premium.

**Comprehensive**
The most complete cover available. This covers damage to your own vehicle from accidents, theft, fire, and many other causes. It also covers third party liability. If you have a newer or higher-value vehicle, comprehensive is generally recommended.

**Which should you choose?**
The right cover depends on the age and value of your vehicle, your driving patterns, and your budget. As a general rule:
- Vehicles under 5 years old: consider comprehensive
- Vehicles 5-10 years old: third party, fire and theft is a sensible middle ground
- Older vehicles: third party may suffice
